External occupational safety specialist (SiFa)

All businesses are required to appoint an external occupational safety specialist in accordance with Section 5 of the German Occupational Safety and Health Act (ASiG) as soon as they employ at least one person. This specialist supports companies in implementing risk assessments, training, and safety measures, and ensures compliance with all legal requirements under the ASiG and the German Occupational Safety and Health Act (ArbSchG). External Incident Response Officers

All companies subject to the Major Accident Hazard Ordinance (12th BImSchV) that store or process hazardous substances in quantities exceeding the specified limits require an external incident officer. The incident officer is responsible for prevention, prepares safety reports, monitors facilities, and develops emergency plans. HSE NRW handles all these tasks as an external service provider. External Waste Management Officers

All businesses that regularly generate or process waste, especially hazardous waste of any quantity or non-hazardous waste exceeding certain annual amounts (§60 KrWG), require an external waste management officer. The waste management officer ensures legally compliant disposal, documentation, and employee training. HSE NRW provides these services as an external provider. External Water Protection Officers

All companies that store or use substances hazardous to water (§60 WHG) require an external water protection officer. The water protection officer ensures that groundwater and surface water are protected, facilities are monitored, and employees are trained. External Emissions Control Officer

All companies operating facilities requiring permits under the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) and generating significant air pollutant emissions need an external emissions control officer. The emissions control officer monitors emissions, develops concepts, and conducts inspections. HSE NRW provides this service as an external provider. External Fire Safety Officer

All businesses with public access or an increased fire risk (buildings with more than two stories, more than 50 employees, storage of flammable materials) require an external fire safety officer. The fire safety officer develops evacuation plans, conducts drills, and trains employees. HSE NRW provides these services as an external provider. External Hazardous Materials Officer

All companies that regularly work with hazardous substances need a hazardous materials officer (§6 GefStoffV). The hazardous materials officer ensures safe handling, storage, labeling, operating instructions, and training. HSE NRW takes on these tasks as an external service provider.
